Airbag Shoulder Protector

Mission

Reduce injuries and improve safety for road cyclists while maintaining a lightweight setup.

The challenge

During road cycling one of the most common injuries after a crash are broken collar bones. Road cyclists want to remain as lightweight as possible both in their gear (bike etc.) and clothing. This prevents them from putting on more protective layers. To tackle this problem a lightweight fall detecting airbag could be the solution for amateurs or even professionals that want a bit more safety while riding.

The solution

My proposition is a shoulder protection airbag which automatically deploys from the back and forms protective cushioning during impact. This helps to reduce the impact force on the collar bones and shoulders during a fall.
